Updated over 2 weeks ago

All missing Next Step Plans (NSPs) from the 24/25 school year will be submitted using last year’s process. If you need any assistance with the process below, please contact newmexico@levelall.com.

Submitting missing Interim Next Step Plans (8th-11th graders in 24/25)

Step 1: Make your copy of the Next Step Plan (NSP)

Link to resource 1: Interim Next Step Plan

A. Make your copy of the interim NSP

Click the blue “Use template” button to make a copy of the Interim Next Step Plan in your Google Drive.

B. Name your document

We’re going to name your file in a specific way so it’s easy to find for you and your advisor/counselor. The structure should be “First initial_Last name_School year_INSP.” Check out this example for a student named John Smith.

  • The initial of the first name: For John, this would just be “J”.

  • The full last name: For Mr. Smith here, that would be “Smith”.

  • The current school year: If John is making his NSP at the end of the 2024–2025 school year, he’s probably doing his in March or April, so he would put “2025”.

  • INSP: INSP stands for interim Next Step Plan.

  • Underscores instead of spaces: So his first initial and last name together would be “J_Smith”.

  • Putting it all together: The file name for John Smith’s NSP would be “J_Smith_2025_INSP”.

C. Share the document with your advisor/counselor

Click the “Share” button at the top right and enter your advisor/counselor’s email address to share it with them.

Step 2: Make your copy of the goal setting extension

A. Use the template

Click the blue “Use template” button to make a copy of the Next Step Plan Goal Setting Extension in your Google Drive.

B. Connect it to your NSP

On the first page of your NSP, find the “Goals” section. There is a space labeled “Link to My Copy of the Goal Setting Worksheet.” Copy the link for your worksheet and paste it there.

Step 3: Fill out your Next Step Plan

A. Fill in your student information

The student information section collects your key details. This will include your name, school, date of birth, age, and the date you updated this document. Your state ID number and student email will be provided by your school.

  • Check with your advisor/counselor: Confirm your high school entry date, target graduation date, and degree type. To finish up, include your advisor/counselor’s name and select any of the listed accommodations or services you receive.

B. Begin your brag sheet

Your brag sheet reflects your own personal highlights.

C. Set your goals for next year

Once you use the questions to formulate a goal for the next school year, copy your final SMART goal into the space below. To finish setting your goals, list out the family and community members that will be able to support you in achieving those goals.

D. Identify your long-term goals

Check the box next to the option (or options) that you believe you will pursue after high school. Then, list the career goal and career cluster you will focus on in high school.

E. Indicate any attachments you are including

Your advisor/counselor may request that you include copies of other documents with your NSP submission. Use the boxes provided to check off any documents you are attaching.

Step 4: Choose next year’s classes

A. Talk to your advisor/counselor about available courses

Your advisor/counselor can recommend courses based on your education and career goals as well as identify the classes you are required to take next year.

B. Pick your courses

While your advisor/counselor may identify courses you have to take, there will be room for you to decide on courses that you want to take, like fine arts electives or available foreign language courses. Whatever you decide, record your final decision in the column provided for the grade you are entering, including a code if the course is an advanced course like Advanced Placement or Distance Learning.

  • What codes can I use? The codes you can include are shown below the credit map.

Step 5: Commit to next year’s extracurricular and career prep activities

A. Pick your extracurricular activities

In high school, you’ll be able to join clubs and activities to support your community, build life skills, and pursue your hobbies. Pick a few activities you would like to try out next year so you can hit the ground running.

B. Record your career prep

You might be pursuing your own career preparation goals, or you might be participating in a career pathway offered by your high school. Either way, record the opportunities you are pursuing next year that align with your career goals.

C. Think ahead to next summer

You may already know how you will spend your time next summer based on your education and career goals. Your advisor/counselor can recommend local opportunities that would be a good fit for your pathway as well.

Step 6: Review the NSP with your advisor/counselor and parents

A. Review the NSP with your advisor/counselor and parents

There is typically a meeting to review your NSP with your advisor/counselor and parents or legal guardians. Together, you’ll review everything included in your NSP to decide if there are any changes that need to be made. Take this opportunity to add the names, phone numbers, and emails of your parents and advisor/counselor involved in the approval process on the fourth page of your NSP, labeled “Approval.”

B. Respond to feedback

The review might highlight changes that need to be made to your NSP. Review any and all feedback and suggestions made during the meeting to finalize your plan.

Step 7: Get approval for your NSP

A. Sign off on your NSP

On the Approval page, enter your name and the date you completed your review.

B. Get parent approval

Parent approval is needed next. Only one parent or legal guardian is required to sign off on the plan, but space is provided for two parents if needed. They will type their name and date they finished reviewing.

C. Get final advisor/counselor approval

Your advisor/counselor has an extra step to complete. They will enter their name and review date as well, but they may also leave a comment at the bottom of the approval section before returning it to you. Once they sign off, your NSP is officially approved.

Step 8: Submit your NSP to My Documents

A. Confirm the file name

Remember: The name of the file should be “First Initial_Last Name_Current Year_INSP”.

B. Upload to My Documents

To turn in your NSP, you will need to download the file as a PDF. This can be done in Google Docs by going to File, selecting Download, and choosing the PDF Document option. Once you have your PDF, head to My Documents in the Profile section on Level All to turn in your document.

Submitting missing Final Next Step Plans (12th graders in SY 24/25)

Step 1: Create your final Next Step Plan (NSP)

Link to resource 1: Final Next Step Plan

A. Make your copy of the final NSP

Click the blue “Use template” button to make a copy of the Final Next Step Plan in your Google Drive.

B. Name your document

We’re going to name your file in a very specific way so it’s easy to find for you and your advisor/counselor. Check out this example for a student named John Smith.

  • FNSP: FNSP stands for final Next Step Plan.

  • Underscores instead of spaces: So it wouldn’t be “J Smith”, it would be “J_Smith”.

  • Putting it all together: The file name for John Smith’s NSP would be “J_Smith_2025_FNSP”.

C. Share the document with your advisor/counselor

Click the “Share” button at the top right and enter your advisor/counselor’s email address to share it with them.

Step 2: Fill out your Next Step Plan

A. Confirm your information

Start off by entering your name, school, state ID number, and confirmed graduation month and year.

B. Share your long-term career goal

Build off the career goal from your interim Next Step Plans to share your long-term career goal.

  • Still undecided? That's okay! That might even be the reason you are pursuing a college pathway. Discuss being undecided with your advisor/counselor or support system.

C. Select your post-grad plan

Your post-grad plan should fall into one of three categories: entering the workforce, enlisting in the military, or pursuing postsecondary education. Choose your program option from the provided dropdown.

  • Still undecided? There is an undecided option in the dropdown menu–if you select this, check in with your advisor/counselor as soon as you can to help make a decision.

D. Confirm your Selective Service registration status

If you were assigned male at birth, you’re required to register for the Selective Service System (SSS) when you turn 18, which allows the federal government to maintain your info and draft you into the military if needed.

  • Failure to register will prevent you from voting, receiving financial aid for college, getting a driver’s license, and applying for government assistance. Choose the option that best fits your registration status.

E. Start your action plan

Link to resource 3: Military Action Plan

The program option you chose has an action plan associated with it, laying out the steps you need to take to successfully transition into it. Open the appropriate resource link from the choices above, click the blue “Use template” button to make a copy, then copy and paste the information from that action plan into the space provided on the second page of the Final NSP - marked with “Paste action plan here.”

Step 3: Review your final Next Step Plan

A. Review your final NSP with your advisor/counselor and parents

Take this chance to review everything included in your final NSP to decide if there are any changes that need to be made or to fix any errors.

B. Respond to feedback

The review may highlight changes that need to be made to your NSP. Review any and all feedback and suggestions made during the meeting to finalize your plan.

Step 4: Submit your final Next Step Plan

A. Confirm who needs to sign off

The final Next Step Plan provides three spaces for signatures: yours, a parent or guardian’s, and your advisor/counselor’s. If you are 18, you no longer need a parent to sign off on your plan, but it can’t hurt to have them sign as well–especially if they will be supporting you in your post-graduation plan.

B. Sign off on your NSP

On the Approval page, enter your name and the date you completed your review on the line labeled Student Name.

C. Get parent approval

Only one parent or legal guardian is required to sign off on the plan, but space is provided for two parents if needed. They will type their name and date they finished reviewing.

D. Get final advisor/counselor approval

Your advisor/counselor has an extra step to complete. They will enter their name and review date as well, but they may also leave a comment at the bottom of the approval section before returning it to you. Once they sign off, your NSP is officially approved. Congratulations!

Step 5: Submit your final NSP to My Documents

A. Confirm the file name

Remember: The name of the file should be “First Initial_Last Name_Current Year_FNSP”.

B. Upload to My Documents

To turn in your NSP, you will need to download the file as a PDF. This can be done in Google Docs by going to File, selecting Download, and choosing the PDF Document option. Once you have your PDF, head to My Documents in the Profile section on Level All to turn in your document.
