Assignments: Where to find and how to create them

The Assignments feature allows you to assign Level All content and track progress. Learn how to find the feature and create an assignment.

Assignments (Educator Dashboard)

Assignments let educators direct students to specific Level All content—with a due date, context, and progress tracking—so learning becomes something you can guide and measure, not just hope happens.

Before you begin Assignments are created within Groups. You can assign to any of your existing groups—including enrollment groups synced from your SIS—or create a new group first. Any group type can receive assignments. For a step-by-step guide to Groups, see our Dashboard walkthrough.

Where to find Assignments

  • Educators: Open the Group you want to manage. The Assignments tab shows every assignment you've created for that Group.

  • Students: Assignments appear on the student homepage under My Assignments, and in the Assignments tab in their navigation bar.

Creating an assignment

  1. Click New Assignment from your Group's Assignments tab.

  2. Choose content—assign a Journey, Project, or Article.

  3. Customize the content (optional)—use the Customize this content dropdown to tailor the material to your students' unique circumstances and interests.

  4. Select students—assign to everyone in the Group, or select a subset.

  5. Enter the details:

    • Title—auto-fills with the content name; customize it if you like.

    • Description (optional)—add context, instructions, or links you want students to reference or use to submit additional work.

    • Due date—set when the assignment is due.

    • Allow late submissions (optional)—check this to let students submit after the due date.

  6. Assign, schedule, or save—make it available immediately, schedule it for a future date and time, or save it as a draft to finish later.

What happens next

  • Notifications—Both educators and students are notified in-app (via the bell in the top menu) and by email when an assignment is created or completed.

  • Progress tracking—As students work through the material, their progress appears automatically in your Group's Assignments tab, including overall progress and completion times.

  • Automatic closure—Once every assigned student has finished, the assignment closes on its own.

If your group's membership changes Assignments are tied to the students they were assigned to, not to the group's current membership. Students added to a group after an assignment was created won't automatically receive it—create a new assignment or assign it to them individually. Students removed from a group keep their existing assignments.
